In some news that comes as no surprise to actual fans of the World Game, Argentina has won the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Playing arguably the greatest World Cup Final since Diego Armando Maradona got it done in 1986, Argentina managed to beat France 4-2 on penalties after an enthralling 3-3 finish after extra time.

The game looked all but over with Argentina up 2-0 with roughly 10-15 minutes to play, however wunderkind Kylian Mbappe went bang bang in a couple of minutes to take the game to extra time.

Argentina then scored another brilliant team goal with not long to go in extra time, before Mbappe banged in another to give himself a hatrick.

The hatrick in a losing team, one of the greatest individual achievements for any self-centred footballer like Cristiano Ronaldo (who is now confirmed out of the GOAT discussion), led to a penalty shoot out that the French choked on.

All of that drama made for the game of the tournament for most fans, with those in the know completely aware that Argentina were going to lift the trophy.

Those who understand basic concepts of soccer were aware that Argentina had won the World Cup the minute Garang Kuol’s shot was blocked in the last minute by Argentinian goalkeeper and noted troll Martinez.

That win over Australia assured the South American nation of glory, with the Albiceleste destined to follow in the footsteps of the 2006 Italians.

Those professional divers won the German World Cup after Fabian Grosso threw his body to the ground in the dying minutes of the match against Australia in the 2006 Round of 16.

The Azzurri then went on to win the world cup, after France head-butted their chances away in the final.

That legacy was carried on by local Italian, Lionel Messi this morning.

Born Lionel Andres Messi Cuccittini, the football star’s parents both had Italian ancestry, something which grinds fans of a nation that has missed out on the last two world cups.

It’s unknown who will beat powerhouses the Socceroos in the next instalment of the World Cup, but it’s believed whoever does will win the World Cup.

More to come.
