Rugby's Marketing Pigeon Proactively Touches Base With Eddie Jones Because Nobody Else Will Until It's Too Late — The Betoota Advocate

One of the nation’s greatest rugby minds, a common rock pigeon from Sydney, has told The Advocate that he’s made contact with former England coach Eddie Jones this week because if he didn’t do it, nobody else would at Rugby Australia until it was too late.

While it’s not in the pigeon’s department, it just thought it’d be proactive considering recent results on the Wallabies’ Spring Tour of Europe.

The flying rat runs the marketing department at the nation’s peak rugby body and has been a close friend of Mr Jones’ since the pair first met when the code was resting on its laurels immediately after the 2003 World Cup final.

In speaking to The Advocate with the assistance of an iPad, the marketing pigeon said he just wanted the best for the game.

“I couldn’t let Eddie feel like we weren’t interested in opening a dialogue with him,” said the pigeon.

“But in saying that, I know there’s a faction inside Rugby Australia that don’t like him. Typically because he likes to pick a team with the best possible players in each position, where the opposite side of the fence looks at which high school and sandstone university college a player went to before choosing them. Yes, Eddie is guilty of perhaps choosing more Brumbies players than most but that’s not half as bad, considering they are actually good,”

“I called Eddie and I had a nice chat to him. We had some nice laughs. His joke about demolishing Sydney University and turning it into affordable medium-density housing for working families made me coo uncontrollably. I’m sure there will be more chats, I hope anyway.”
